Another open ended project, this time with the explicit instructions to explore a practice you had never done before—I chose to explore film and ‘film soup’ which is the purposeful degradation of film before it is fully developed to produce a cool effect. Since this project occurred on a very quick turn around I didn’t get to create real ‘film soup’ but I did get the chance to create my own using Photoshop.

The idea for this zine was to focus on decay— film decay, social decay, environmental, architectural, etc.—and from the film photo’s I collected of this decay, to create a zine that would culminate them all along with a poem I wrote.

It is hard to understand sometimes, but decay is a natural and loving part of life. Documenting and writing this poem helped me come to terms with this part of life and I think that is the real beauty of creating a meaningful piece of work.
