FORGOTTEN

Hand Painted & Printed Book

Fall 2023

FORGOTTEN was an open ended final project for a relief printing class. I chose to explore how print could be utilized in a hand-bound book setting and how a multi-media approach could enhance the craft of the project.

The subject of the zine is things forgotten, disregarded everyday objects— things otherwise thrown away or forgotten about— an apple core, an empty paint tube, a broken fork, a cigarette butt, the crusts off a sandwich, and a tee shirt with giant stains.

The goal was to create an 8 page hand-bound book which will be created out of Meijer paper grocery bags that I have accumulated over time. The bags were cut and folded to create pockets which hold the printed objects and then painted behind each pocket to create the ‘home’ where the object lives. These six items were carved out of left over linoleum scraps I had from previous projects, printed on paper I had left over as well. A zine of disregarded objects, made from disregarded linoleum, printed on used grocery bags and bound together with scraps of thread and glue I already owned. I wanted it to evoke the emotions I often find myself trapped within, feeling useless, left over, and disregarded.
